I live in Sydney and this is one of my favourite saunas. I've been to many saunas all over Europe and North America and this one rates well against overseas venues.
Kens at Kensington is a legendary Sydney sauna. The location is not as easy to get to as Bodyline. This place is a little further away, but on a bus route from Oxford St. The city centre is about 4 km away.
Decor is a little dungeon-like which adds to the atmosphere.
No bar facilities, but free tea and coffee. Clean and safe. A medium-sized steam room that is VERY cruisy. Lots of columns and arches around a central slab. Dark, steamy and very funy. Lots of fun in the steam room. A small sauna and a cosy 6 man whirlpool. Open shower areas. Porn room. Swimming pool with see-through ceiling to the cafe above. Sadly, not too many go swimming. Cruising areas upstairs donwstairs and glory hole areas.
Unlike many overseas saunas, there is no extra charge for "rooms". Plenty of small rooms with single and double mattresses. Free condoms and lube available in all areas, especially rooms. 2 free towels, extra towels $1 each.
This sauna has a mixed age clientele (20-50) that is more masculine than at Bodyline. If you want an Aussie man, this is the place to go. As the location is not in the heart of gay Sydney, a lot more men here that wouldn't go to other more obvious saunas. More masculine and hairy, and also bi and married men. A lot less "attitude" and fewer dance club boys, therefore a lot less time spent cruising and more time having fun. Price around AU $25.
Unlike Europe, busiest time is usually later at night. Midweek and daytime a little quiet.
Friday night is very popular with a "buck naked" night, with no towels to be worn after 8pm. Towels only for drying.. then you must walk around naked. VERY funy!
Sunday afternoon and early evening is VERY popular.
