Center no longer exists. Instead, the second low-end place in downtown Recife is the Progresso Club. I went on a Sunday in July. As I prefer straight-acting older men, to find out the place was run by a transvestite, who is very much in your face at all times, was slightly disturbing. Like all places in Recife, rent-boys look like they have a hard life. The place is enormous, too bright for any mood-setting, and way too exposed (I could almost picture the live feed on the Internet as I was trying to understand why a bathhouse has drag queen shows). AS 111, the other low-end place in downtown, locals are so shy you feel you are in a country club having beers with the guys. There`s not a hint that there`s fun going on anywhere in the house. Depressive. I ran out as fast as I could.
