The city of Mannheim is very different from other cities in Germany and this sauna fits right in: It's large AND friendly, it's very cruisy AND clean, it's got a large bar AND cheap drinks (well at least not as expensive as in Frankfurt's saunas). This seems to be the sauna in Germany or Europe with the largest spending on advertising (they even have ads in Berlin magazines - Berlin is 380 miles away!). In their ads, they promise to have lots of action and lots of hot guys and - funny enough - it's actually true (at least when I was there which was on a Friday winter night). Lucky enough though, not all the guys are models and the majority are regular horny guys between 22 and 38. They come for the action in the cruising area (With free cabins that can be locked) or the steam room. My guess is that a lot of these guys either study in Mannheim or come from the rural areas that Mannheim is surrounded by. Although the bar is large, not a lot of people actually use it or drink a lot (which is probably also due to the fact that the bar is on the top level (where the entrance is) and the cruising area is two levels down. Also, their smoking lounge is an ugly glass cage - not very comfy there. When you walk down to the sauna level, you see other people getting a massage. This is what I cannot understand; Why do I have to watch people when they are getting a massage??? (And you cannot avoid to see is because if you close your eyes on the (possibly wet) stairs, you might end up needing an ambulance!).
The sauna area is large, clean and has a variety of sauna types to choose from. If you are not coming here for the action (one more level down from the sauna level), you can actually have a real spa feeling (No, I do not mean that *certain* feeling in one of the hide-away areas of the steam room when you bend over.) Although the cruising level is not so large and the number of cabins is limited, I lost count on the number of encounters I had there. Lots of great guys that like to play wild in all directions, all levels of protection.
There are not many reasons to travel to Mannheim, but this place is certainly one of them.
